This Mother’s Day, we’re thinking about the moms who make school meals possible.

At Thrive, our mission is more than providing healthy school meals to students. It’s about strengthening the systems around them so children can actually stay in school and families can build something more stable at the same time. That’s why in the Philippines, we hire local mothers to cook and serve the meals students receive at school every day. When the people preparing the food are also part of the community, meals are more trusted, jobs stay local and the impact reaches beyond the classroom into the household.

Nancy is one of those amazing moms. Through Thrive, she found her first steady job cooking meals for 241 students at Katutubo Village Elementary School. On the very first day meals were served, attendance reached 100%.

She’s part of our model that connects school feeding programs to local opportunity. The result is kids who are better nourished and more present in school and parents who finally have a reliable source of income close to home.

But the best way to understand Nancy’s story is to hear it from her. Watch her story below and see what this work means in her own words.

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating moms like Nancy who are not only caring for their own children, but helping entire communities “thrive.” Happy Mother’s Day!
