Nourishing Children Through Rising Costs and a Season of Giving

As Ramadan wraps a month of reflection, generosity, and shared compassion, we are reminded of the profound role food plays in our lives. Yet for many families across Bangladesh, rising fuel prices have made even the simplest meals harder to afford. These increases ripple through the entire food chain, affecting the cost of transporting, preparing, and serving food to children who rely on daily school meals.

In Bangladesh, food inflation climbed to 9.3% year‑over‑year in early 2026, driven by higher transport and import costs. Analysts anticipate even higher increases in food costs as fuel prices continue to fluctuate.

For Thrive, these rising costs directly affect the meals we prepare. Under normal conditions, $10 provides a child with a nutritious school meal every day for a month. But with fuel and food prices climbing, that cost could rise by 5 to 10%, stretching already‑tight budgets for families and schools.

And yet, even in the face of these challenges, Thrive has remained steadfast. Since 2012, we have served over 5 million school meals, missing only three days in more than a decade. Hartals, terrorism, fires, typhoons, and even a global pandemic could not stop us. Children know that when they arrive at school, a nourishing meal will be waiting.

Our meals are built on dignity and care. We focus on fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein sourced from local farmers, ensuring children receive the best nutrition possible while strengthening local economies. Every plate served supports not only a child’s health but also the farmers and families who grow the food.

This Ramadan, your generosity can carry children through a season of rising costs and uncertainty. Your support ensures that students continue receiving the school meals they depend on. Meals that sustain them through long days of learning and reflection.

Thank you for sharing your compassion this Ramadan. Your kindness helps Thrive keep meals coming for children every school day, no matter what challenges arise.
