Born and raised in Los Baños, Laguna, in the Philippines, Marissa Frankenfield knows firsthand the economic struggles many regions face. That’s why she and her husband, Greg, and their four children have committed to making sure that all 223 students at Hornalan Elementary School in Calamba, Laguna, receive daily meals for the next three years.
“Supporting the students of Hornalan Elementary is deeply meaningful to us,” Marissa said. “We believe every child deserves the chance to learn with a full stomach and a hopeful heart. Investing in these young learners is our way of giving back to a community close to our roots and helping build a stronger future for the next generation.”

Hornalan is a rural farming community in the foothills of Mt. Makiling, where families traditionally rely on small vegetable farms and seasonal fieldwork. As development expands, farm work has diminished. That reduces household income, leaving families with less money to eat.
The Frankenfields now live in Minnesota and have been generous philanthropists for many years. Their long-term commitment to Thrive highlights their dedication to child welfare and community-focused food.
Thrive is a global nonprofit dedicated to fighting childhood hunger in the Philippines and Bangladesh. The organization works to ensure schoolchildren have access to healthy meals every day. Research shows that school meals support high attendance rates which leads to improved educational outcomes.
The Frankenfield’s commitment will ensure that these students have access to a bright future.
“Marissa and Greg’s generosity comes at a critical time for families whose livelihoods are shifting,” Thrive Co-Founder, Executive Director Priscilla Heffelfinger said. “This support gives children the stability they need to stay in school and pursue the opportunities that can change the course of their lives.”
