“My stomach growls for food when I go to school on an empty stomach.” Meet Ruwaida, a student whose days are brighter and stronger thanks to Thrive.
For her family, Thrive means relief and hope. Khokon, her father, says: “I rent the rickshaw from a garage. What I earn is not enough to support my family.” With Thrive providing daily school meals, his children can focus on learning instead of worrying about hunger.
For teachers, Thrive is a joy to witness. Hashi, Head Teacher at GLP School Badda, shares: “Thrive has been providing 3 nutritious food items for the students. It has significantly helped their energy levels and overall well-being. I am very happy to see their smiling faces during their tiffin time with their friends.”
For the workers delivering the meals, Thrive is fulfillment in action. Shujon, a Direct Fresh delivery man, says: “We almost deliver to 1,800 students in Dhaka. When I deliver food, my joys know no bounds to see the children’s faces.”
For the children themselves, Thrive is opportunity and growth. Tashin, a student, says: “I’m not very good at football, but my favorite sport is football. When I couldn’t afford fruits, I was very weak and bad in every sport. But Thrive gave me the opportunity to get fruits every day.”
Fahima, a 9th-grade student at Jaago Foundation School, adds: “A few days ago, my father passed away. Since I started school at a young age, Thrive has provided us with food. By eating these foods, we can stay strong and maintain our physical structure.”
For the board members, Thrive is happiness and hope. Kanwal shares: “Thrive to me means happiness. It means happy faces, healthy bodies, more children in school, and shingara—what brings happiness to the kids’ faces.” Arsalan adds: “Thrive provides an opportunity to underprivileged children and allows people like us to get more involved in the community.”
Thanks to Direct Fresh, who have supplied and delivered nutritious meals since 2015, Thrive can fuel the futures of children across 12 schools in Dhaka. Amna, Executive Board Member, says it best: “These meals change their lives. Good nutrition and education go hand in hand. It gives them the ability to grow, improve their cognitive skills, and be the best they can be so they have a bright future ahead of them.”
For Thrive Board Member Sadia, it’s personal: “I wake up every day and I think how lucky I am that I’m able to do this and make a difference in the lives of so many young children. Together, we bring meaning to Thrive.”
